Querença is a very small village in the central Algarve (department of Loulé) inland. It seems made for it.

Querença: the church, the architecture, the houses ...

After a brief visit I looked for information, since the sense of balance - almost in the style of Alvaro Siza - of the reigning rural architecture caught my attention. somewhat disturbing natural and architectural beauty due to its simplicity and reduced scope where it expands.

Querença is located on a hill and the highlight is its parish (Iglesia del XVI), which occupies a central place in the town square. The houses descend downhill in all directions, It is characterized by its charming typical white houses with a colored bar around the windows and doors, with traditional Algarve-style fireplaces.

Artisans, typical products, restaurants, cuisine and shopping

Craftsmen work in the town, who mainly work palm, sugar cane (basketry) and cloth dolls; also more than 16 varieties of artisan spirits. Honey, whose origin is one of the largest varieties of flowers in the Mediterranean basin.

I have read that this village is known for its distillation of strawberry trees and chorizo. celebrates the sausage festival in the month of January (3. Sunday).

In the village you can taste a typical cuisine, preserved by the two local restaurants. They are typical dishes of Querença, among others, the "Cerejada", the chicken giblets and corn flour (corn porridge, traditional Algarve). This rural town is well known for the quality of its agricultural products. It is advisable to buy “Aguardiente de Medronho” (a strawberry-berry liqueur) and the famous “chorizo” (it's like a smoked sausage), and if possible attend the “Chouriças”.

Fonte da Benémola natural place

Near the town, one of the most outstanding natural resources of Querença is the beautiful Fonte da Benémola, Protected Area, a place of great natural beauty, a symbol of the diversity of the Algarve landscape.
