Scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory have discovered that a phenomenon known as carrier multiplication, in which semiconductor nanocrystals respond to photons by producing multiple electrons, can be applied to a much wider range of materials, as previously suspected.
This discovery increases the possibilities of using nanocrystals as materials in solar batteries to obtain higher electrical powers than those currently used.
