The Autonomous Community of Extremadura or Region of Extremadura, It is located in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It is made up of 2 provinces: Cáceres and Badajoz, with Mérida being its capital. It has an area of 41,634 km2. It is bordered to the north by Castilla-León, to the east by Castilla-La Mancha, to the south by Andalusia and to the west with Portugal. It is located between 2 large basins: to the north the Tagus Basin and to the south the Guadiana Basin.
Its climate is Mediterranean with Atlantic influence. Its temperatures are very extreme in summer, it is very hot and winters are not very cold.
Its characteristic landscapes are the Dehesas, large expanses of fields full of cork oak forests and herds of bulls, cows, sheep. It also has 2 Natural Parks, such as those of Montfragüe and Cornalvo.
Extremadura has a great heritage from its period of Roman occupation and a very interesting civil architecture.
Another of its treasures is its gastronomy, especially its ham, its Iberian sausages and its cheeses, since its pigs are fed in its pastures with acorns. They're delicious!.
